Holidays designed exactly around you

The Holiday Architect

Conventional planning starts with a destination.
Ours starts with you.

The Holiday Architect is a bespoke travel planning service for people who want their next significant journey shaped around who they actually are as travellers, not just where they want to go.

Conventional planning builds from the outside in: flights, hotels, itinerary. It fits together. But the picture that emerges may not be the one you were reaching for.

We start somewhere else entirely.

Ron Montgomery - founder of Spirit of Travel

“Meaningful travel ideas often sit just below the surface. They often are long-held ambitions, aspirations never fully voiced in an environment where they can be made into reality. Our commitment is to listen carefully, ask the right questions, and shape those ideas into a holiday that could not have been assembled any other way.”

Ron Montgomery, Founder

Most planning sells an itinerary.
We build a journey.

Questions before conversation

Each traveller receives a set of questions separately, going further into how you travel than most people have been asked to consider. Your answers are read carefully before any conversation begins.

A conversation built on what he's read

We listen more than we talk. What surfaces is a picture specific to you, sometimes things you have never quite put into words about how you travel.

A written vision before any booking

We prepare a written vision of your holiday, describing its shape and why each element is there. You read it, refine it if needed, and sign off before any booking is made.

Everything handled from there

From there, the complexity is ours. We handle the research, the sequencing, every booking and every communication with providers on the ground. What reaches you is a clear, considered itinerary built exactly to the shape of your journey.

"We booked our flights to Vietnam and arrived at Ron with no itinerary, six weeks before departure. The pressure was real. He delivered everything: top-quality accommodation, well-chosen guides, transfers throughout, and a WhatsApp-based support team on the ground who handled details and solved problems in real time. I've since read back through my travel blog from that trip. It was genuinely memorable. We got the flavour of Vietnam, the culture and the people, exactly as we'd hoped. Ron came through on every front."

You already know what a good trip feels like

The question you’re sitting with isn’t whether to go. It’s whether this one – the one you keep coming back to – could be planned in a way that actually matches the weight you give it.

You’ve done the research. You know the destination roughly. But somewhere in the planning, the version in your head starts to flatten into an itinerary that could belong to anyone.

That’s the gap we work in.

Not to take over your trip, but to make sure the holiday that gets built is actually the one you were imagining – shaped around how you travel, what restores you, and what you want to carry home from it.

Your trip, always one tap away

Every booking, every note, every local detail your travel agent has built into your journey – organised and ready on your phone.

Real-time flight updates, day-by-day timing, and everything you need to arrive exactly where you’re supposed to be.

No digging. No surprises.

"I thought I probably wasn't big enough for this, or the trip wasn't significant enough. Then I reached out anyway, because I remembered what it had been like working with Ron before. He replied that same evening. The contrast with every other experience I've had was immediate. What we ended up with wasn't just a holiday plan. It felt like a storybook, from the very first conversation."

Questions people usually ask before they reach out

Is this just a travel agent with a different name?
Not quite. A travel agent typically starts with a destination and builds an itinerary around it. We start with you: who you are as a traveller, what this journey means, what you want to feel when you come home. The destination planning follows from that.
Not necessarily. Most people arrive with a destination in mind, and that is a perfectly good starting point. What we are really trying to understand is what is drawing you there, and as that becomes clearer, the destination sometimes shifts and sometimes simply comes into sharper focus. If you have no destination yet but a genuine appetite to travel, we are equally happy to explore possibilities with you from the beginning.
We charge a planning fee, separate from your travel costs. This covers everything from the initial questions through to your annotated itinerary and support while you are travelling. The fee reflects the depth of work involved, and means our advice is never tied to what earns the highest commission.
That depends on the complexity of the journey, but most clients have a written vision within a week of their first conversation. From there, bookings are made progressively as decisions are confirmed.
That is completely fine. We work with what you bring. Some clients arrive with a destination and a rough timeframe, or a chosen cruise or tour; others start from scratch. Either way, the process begins wherever you are.

Start the conversation

If this feels like the right way to travel internationally, the next step is a short introductory call with Ron. No obligation, no cost. Just a conversation about what you are planning and what it could become.
