Why we love building this experience into our itineraries:

Croatia offers a rare blend of coastal calm, heritage and lightly held sophistication. As you arrive from New Zealand the shift is immediate. The Adriatic has a clarity that changes with each hour of light. Cities are shaped by marble streets and shaded squares. Ferries glide between islands, and life follows the rhythm of the sea. There is an unforced elegance that suits travellers who appreciate beauty delivered with restraint.

We shape each itinerary with a gentle entry into the country. Routes into Europe allow a smooth transition and time to rest before stepping into your first Croatian setting. From there movement feels effortless. Coastal towns invite walking rather than driving. Ferries connect the islands with ease. National parks offer quiet trails, waterfalls and lakes that feel worlds apart from the coast. For those who choose to drive, car rentals with unlimited mileage are available, although many travellers prefer a journey designed so that a car is never needed.

The experience deepens through thoughtful stays. A historic townhouse tucked behind city walls. A stone villa with soft morning light. A boutique lodge set above olive groves. This is a place where materiality matters and the simplest details carry grace. With the right pacing Croatia becomes a journey of slow discovery, shaped by water, architecture and the warm continuity of the Mediterranean.

Sustainable travel planning

5 reasons this belongs on your Bucket List:

  • The beauty of the Adriatic - Clear water in shades of blue and green and a coastline defined by coves, pine trees and quiet beaches.
  • Islands with character and charm - Hvar, Korčula and smaller islands offer a balance of culture, swimming spots and understated style.
  • Historic cities that invite wandering - Split, Dubrovnik and Zadar reveal Roman and medieval layers through stone archways, markets and waterfront walks.
  • National parks rich in natural texture - Plitvice and Krka offer lakes, pathways and waterfalls with the option for private guided visits arranged in advance.
  • A seamless journey without a car - Ferries, water taxis and private transfers make Croatia easy to explore from city to island to national park.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most travellers fly from Auckland with a connection through Doha, Singapore or another major European gateway. Qatar Airways and Singapore Airlines offer comfortable long haul options. From Europe you can continue into Zagreb, Split or Dubrovnik depending on your itinerary. We arrange the route so that arrival feels calm and unhurried.
Yes. The country is well suited to travellers who prefer not to drive. The historic centres are pedestrian friendly and ferries between the islands are frequent and reliable. Private transfers cover inland travel and guided day tours provide access to national parks. Many travellers find this approach more peaceful than hiring a vehicle.
The most balanced months are May, June, September and October with warm weather and gentle sea conditions. July and August offer lively coastal energy and long days for swimming. Spring and late autumn create a softer atmosphere ideal for architecture, food and cultural exploring.
New Zealand passport holders can visit Croatia without a visa for short stays within the Schengen area. Your passport should be valid for at least six months beyond your planned departure. We confirm all entry requirements and ensure your itinerary aligns with current regulations.
Ferries can be booked online or in person depending on the season. Popular parks such as Plitvice and Krka offer timed entry tickets which we arrange ahead of your visit. Historical sites and city landmarks also provide online booking options. All reservations are included in your bespoke itinerary so that the journey unfolds with clarity and ease.

I approached Ron Montgomery of Spirit of Travel in October last (2025) as we'd booked flights to and from Vietnam with no plan of the itinerary for our three week journey, and only six weeks or so away from our ETA in Saigon. So I'd really put the pressure on him to provide an itinerary, and he came up trumps. We were so happy with our journey, the accommodation was top quality as were the tours and guides. We were transported off our flights to our accommodation and anywhere necessary in between. Plus we had online (via WhatsApp) travel guides supporting us throughout our journey. They advised us the details for our taxi drivers and tour guides wherever necessary and if anything didn't work out they were there to fix it. I've just revisited my travel blog and can honestly say, it was a truly memorable trip, and so well organised, with everything we'd asked for and more. We got the flavour of Vietnam, the culture and the people just as we'd hoped. So thankyou Ron.... we highly recommend him and his top shelf skills.
