Why we love building this experience into our itineraries:

Tanzania offers a sense of spaciousness that feels both grounding and uplifting. Arriving from New Zealand, you move gradually from the soft highland light of the Sacred Valley outside Arusha into the vast sweep of the Serengeti. Herds shift in the distance, acacia trees edge the horizon and the land feels measured in centuries rather than days. This is a place that rewards stillness as much as exploration.

We design the journey with care, allowing you to adjust to distance and altitude before entering the safari rhythm. Connection routes from Auckland through Doha, Dubai or Johannesburg ensure a smooth arrival into Kilimanjaro or Arusha. From there, the experience flows with intention. Time in the Serengeti is followed by the dramatic descent into Ngorongoro Crater, a natural amphitheatre filled with wildlife and shadowed by cool ridge air. Each lodge we select reflects quiet luxury, thoughtful materials and a sense of belonging to the land rather than imposing upon it.

For many travellers the contrast at the end is the gentle exhale. After days on the plains, the coastline of Zanzibar offers warm breeze, soft sand and a slower pace. Whether you choose a boutique beach retreat or a heritage property in Stone Town, the journey closes with calm and a renewed appreciation of Africa’s variety. This is Tanzania at its most considered and beautifully paced.

5 reasons this belongs on your Bucket List:

  • The Serengeti’s moving plains – Wildlife flows across open country in a rhythm shaped by seasons and light.
  • Ngorongoro Crater’s natural grandeur – A vast volcanic caldera where animals gather in a landscape unlike any other.
  • Seamless travel from New Zealand – Qatar Airways, Emirates and other trusted carriers link Auckland to Tanzania with ease.
  • Warm cultural connection – Encounters with Maasai communities and local guides add depth to the landscape you are exploring.
  • A graceful finale in Zanzibar – Soft oceanside days and design focused accommodation complete the journey with quiet beauty.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most travellers depart Auckland and connect through Doha, Dubai or Johannesburg before continuing to Kilimanjaro or Dar es Salaam. The journey is long but smooth when planned with intention. We structure flights to allow restful layovers and ensure seamless onward transfers to your first lodge or hotel.
June through October offers dry conditions and excellent wildlife viewing. The green season from November to March has vivid colours, dramatic skies and fewer visitors. Both seasons have distinct advantages. Your preferred pace, interest in the Great Migration and comfort with weather patterns will help define the right timing for you.
Yes. New Zealand passport holders require an entry visa for Tanzania. The easiest option is the official online application through the Tanzania Immigration website. We guide you through the process or arrange support through a trusted visa partner so that all paperwork is completed well before departure.
Choose a policy that covers medical care, evacuation, luggage and trip interruption. We work with a trusted supplier we can recommend for your insurance needs to reflect the nature of safari travel including light aircraft flights and remote lodges.
Yes. Many itineraries pair a Serengeti and Ngorongoro journey with a beach retreat in Zanzibar for an elegant close to the trip. Others prefer a soft adventure extension at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro. Both offer contrast and a deeper perspective on the country. We design the flow so that each phase feels grounded and unhurried.

I approached Ron Montgomery of Spirit of Travel in October last (2025) as we'd booked flights to and from Vietnam with no plan of the itinerary for our three week journey, and only six weeks or so away from our ETA in Saigon. So I'd really put the pressure on him to provide an itinerary, and he came up trumps. We were so happy with our journey, the accommodation was top quality as were the tours and guides. We were transported off our flights to our accommodation and anywhere necessary in between. Plus we had online (via WhatsApp) travel guides supporting us throughout our journey. They advised us the details for our taxi drivers and tour guides wherever necessary and if anything didn't work out they were there to fix it. I've just revisited my travel blog and can honestly say, it was a truly memorable trip, and so well organised, with everything we'd asked for and more. We got the flavour of Vietnam, the culture and the people just as we'd hoped. So thankyou Ron.... we highly recommend him and his top shelf skills.
